Job
descriptions are helpful but limited, aren't they? To give you more
insight to your chosen career field, we have gathered comments and
articles from people who have years of experience "on the job."
They detail more than just the description; they show you
the career field from a day in, day out level. They talk about the up
sides and the down sides. Their comments are an invaluable way --
short of experiencing it yourself -- to look deeper into what you can
expect once you become the professional.

Janelle
McCl ain, co-owner of CornerHouse
Gallery & Frame, a Cedar Rapids art gallery and state-of-the-art
picture framing studio, has found that you dont have to work in the big city
to find success in a career in the fine arts.
Ms. McClain focuses on promoting the talented artists from the Midwest
region. How does an art gallery in
Cedar Rapids compete with art galleries in New York, Chicago and other big
cities? According to Ms. McClain, The commitment of the owners to provide
quality service as well as their ability to match the creations of talented
artists with the discriminating needs of their clientscorporate, residential
and museumhave been the components to a fulfilling career in art in Cedar
Rapids. Ms. McClain
emphasizes, An education in the fine or applied arts with an understanding
of business will provide a solid and practical base for a successful career in
art.

Taking
the Work Keys assessments in high school is very important according
to Mr. David Miller, Chief Marketing Officer at AEGON USA,
Inc., an
insurance company that employs approximately 1,200 people in Cedar
Rapids. "Students should rank taking the Work Keys tests as
being even more important than taking a drivers license test,"
said Mr. Miller. Work Keys are not the type of tests that you can cram
for. If you build your curriculum choices carefully and study hard,
you will be proficient when you take the Work Keys tests. Doing well
on the Work Keys tests should give you a better opportunity of getting
your perfect job some day.
